Mothers Day is celebrated with lot of enthusiasm in every country across the globe. Despite the fact that Mothers Day celebrations take place at different times around the world, there are remarkably same feelings with which people celebrate Mothers Day. This is so because mothers usually posses the same characteristics in every part of the world. Most people like to celebrate Mothers Day while enjoying each others company with their mothers. Some people who are away from their families make efforts to spend the day with mothers and grandmothers to make them feel special. For those individuals who can’t go home on this especial occasion express their gratitude and love for their mothers by either calling on the phone or sending greeting cards or gifts.
The Queen is considered as the mother of all Thai people that’s why they set mothers day in the same date as the birthday of her majesty which is August 12. This is considered a public holiday and is celebrated nationwide. As early as the first week of August, almost all establishments around Thailand are preparing for this occasion. Every year in August, Royal symbols and huge portraits of Her Majesty are raised in temples, administrative buildings, schools, houses, shops and even along the streets.
Since August 12 is a national holiday, schools and other public offices celebrates mothers day usually on the last working day of the week. On this occasion, almost everyone wear their most beautiful clothes. In Kanchananukroh School , representatives per class invited their mothers to attend a ceremony at school.
The ceremony was opened by lighting of the incense by the school director followed by a short speech. The students then sing a song dedicated to their mothers accompanied with their thai musical instruments and the school band.
Then a student read some kind of a poem/message dedicated to all the parents. Then in turns, all the mothers sat on the stage while every student kneel in front of their mothers offering them whatever gifts (mostly jasmine flower garlands) they have.
Before ending the ceremony, the school director gave a certificate and some souvenirs to the mothers.
